Nana Yaa Jantuah, Executive Secretary of COSECA, expressed doubt about the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) attracting strategic investors, citing its financial struggles.
She called for reforms before considering privatization and questioned whether the ECG is following set benchmarks.
These concerns follow a Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) warning of ECG’s near-bankruptcy, which is affecting other key institutions.
Dr. Nii Darko Asante, former PURC Executive Secretary, said that talk of privatization reflects failures in ECG’s management and the regulator’s enforcement of performance standards.
