Empowering auditing institutions key to curbing fiscal irresponsibility – Domelevo

Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo, at the launch of the Fiscal Recklessness Index 2024 by IMANI Africa and Oxfam Ghana, stressed the need to empower existing public auditing bodies rather than establishing new ones like the proposed Independent Fiscal Council.

Domelevo highlighted that strengthening oversight institutions such as the Auditor General’s Office, the Public Accounts Committee, and the Internal Audit Agency would improve fiscal accountability.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam announced plans for an independent fiscal council to monitor government debt levels and enforce borrowing limits, aiming to prevent a repeat of Ghana’s debt crisis and ensure fiscal discipline.
