Finance Ministry named most fiscally reckless public institution

A report by IMANI Africa and Oxfam Ghana has named the Ministry of Finance (MoF) as the most fiscally reckless institution in Ghana from 2021 to 2023, a title it held from 2015 to 2020. The Ministries of Agriculture, Communication, Roads, and Health followed.

Over GHC 4.9 billion was lost in 2023 due to financial irregularities, with nearly 90% linked to the MoF.

IMANI's Dennis Asare emphasized the need for a stronger fiscal council to address issues like tax discrepancies and improve oversight, suggesting it be legally backed and empowered.
