Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong has warned that illegal mining (galamsey) poses a severe threat to Ghana’s food security and cocoa industry.

He highlighted the destruction of farmlands and pollution of vital water sources, which jeopardizes irrigation and crop production.

Acheampong described the situation as an “existential threat” and called for a national dialogue and reevaluation of mining regulations to prevent further damage.

He emphasized the need for community involvement in protecting natural resources and urged all Ghanaians to take ownership of the issue, stating that it affects everyone, not just the government.
