Ghana has launched the Ghana Cocoa Traceability System (GCTS) to trace cocoa beans from farms to shipping ports, initiated by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) effective December 2024.
The GCTS pilot in Assin Fosu has mapped over 40,000 farms and registered more than 20,000 farmers, with 40% being women.
During the 2023/2024 season, over 1,230 bags (77.3 tons) of sustainable cocoa were successfully shipped.
This initiative received funding from the EU and the German Federal Ministry, with technical support from GIZ and COCOBOD.
