Ghana faces increased cocoa smuggling risks after Ivory Coast raised its farmgate price to 1,800 CFA francs (GH₵ 48) per kilogram, surpassing Ghana’s GH₵ 3,000 per 64 kg bag.

Ivory Coast aims to curb smuggling, yet it may still occur due to better prices in Liberia and Guinea.

Ghana has also struggled with smuggling, losing 160,000 metric tons of cocoa in 2023/2024. Despite Cocobod raising Ghana's farmgate price by 45%, Ivory Coast’s price hike could still attract smugglers.

Additionally, poor harvests in both countries have caused a global cocoa supply deficit.
