The government has affirmed the necessity of the COVID-19 levy, emphasizing its role in addressing the ongoing financial repercussions of the pandemic.
Despite calls from the business community for its repeal, citing it as a burden and deterrent to investment, the government maintains that the levy remains vital.
Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare, stated that while the immediate threat of COVID-19 has diminished, its financial impacts persist.
The levy continues to fund pandemic-related expenses, including vaccine costs, as mandated by Parliament.
