Ghana's mining industry reported a sharp rise in fatalities in 2023, with deaths increasing from one in 2022 to seven, a 600% surge. First Aid Injuries also rose by 3.8%, reaching 162 cases.
Despite the decline in near-miss incidents by 21.8%, the Ghana Chamber of Mines' report underscores ongoing safety concerns.
To address this, the National Inter-Mines First Aid and Safety Competition, themed "Safety! Our Collective Responsibility," was organized by St John Ambulance Ghana.
The event promoted first aid training, with Perseus Mining (Ghana) Ltd. winning the competition, and receiving laptops, tablets, and other awards for excellence.
