Indefinite shut down of Parliament could badly hurt economy- Finance Committee Chair

Patrick Boamah, Chairman of Parliament’s Finance Committee, warned that Parliament's indefinite shutdown could harm Ghana’s economy and delay key IMF-related reforms and legislation, such as the Environmental Protection Bill and a $250 million World Bank loan.

He urged Speaker Alban Bagbin to prioritize national interest to prevent further economic strain.

The shutdown stems from a Supreme Court ruling freezing Bagbin's decision to vacate four parliamentary seats.

Boamah cautioned that delays could affect investor confidence and Ghana’s economic recovery, suggesting an emergency recall of Parliament to address the backlog of issues.
