The European Union, in collaboration with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and ASASE Foundation, has launched a cutting-edge plastic lumber factory in Weija, Accra, with a capacity of 2,000 tons.
This initiative, part of ASASE's ‘Closing the Loop of Plastic Packaging’ project, aims to reduce plastic waste, promote sustainability, and empower women entrepreneurs.
The factory will create over 38 jobs, primarily for local women, providing on-the-job training.
EU representatives highlighted the project's alignment with Ghana's Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing education on plastic waste and the importance of recycling in fostering community development.
