Michael Akafia appointed new President of Chamber of Mines

Michael Akafia of Gold Fields Ghana Limited has been appointed President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, succeeding Joshua Mortoti.

Akafia, currently Vice President of External Affairs at Gold Fields, brings extensive experience in the mining industry, legal, and compliance sectors.

The Chamber’s CEO, Sulemanu Koney, expressed confidence in Akafia’s ability to advance sustainable mining practices and contribute to Ghana’s economic development.

Akafia expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized his commitment to advocating for policies supporting mining sector growth.

He has a strong educational background in law, finance, and environmental law, making him well-suited for the role.
