NRGI, CSOs push for electric vehicle manufacturing in Ghana

A dialogue between the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) highlighted the need to establish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing centers in Ghana. This initiative would provide valuable training for tertiary students and help drive economic growth while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Experts emphasized that Ghana could leverage its green mineral resources, like lithium and cobalt, to become a regional hub for EV production.

Failure to embrace this transition risks turning the country into a dumping ground for second-hand fuel-powered vehicles, hindering environmental progress. Political parties also discussed integrating EV manufacturing into their manifestos.
