Denis Gyeyir, Africa Senior Programme Officer at NRGI Denis Gyeyir, Africa Senior Programme Officer at NRGI

Denis Gyeyir, Africa Senior Programme Officer at NRGI, emphasized the need for Ghana to revise its mining policies to address anti-corruption and environmental sustainability as global demand for transition minerals like lithium and graphite rises.

Speaking at a workshop on November 12, he highlighted the gaps in Ghana’s 2014 mining policy, advocating for alignment with international standards to curb corruption and ensure sustainable extraction practices.

Gyeyir urged the adoption of UN-backed principles to safeguard communities and the environment.

NRGI’s new corruption diagnostic tool and “red flags” for corruption aim to aid oversight and protect Ghana’s mineral wealth. The institute collaborates with stakeholders to ensure mining benefits Ghana’s development sustainably and transparently.
