Olam Agri's "My Healthy Baker" initiative recently completed health screenings for over 3,800 bakers across Ghana's Greater Accra and Ashanti regions. The program, launched in 2022 and now expanded for 2024, aims to elevate health and hygiene standards in Ghana’s bakery sector by providing screenings and hygiene training.
Participating bakers accessed either stationary or mobile screening centers across municipalities including Tema, Suame, and Ashaiman. Those who pass the screening receive food handling certificates, certifying their suitability to work with food.
Soumya Saxena, Olam Agri's Grains Business Head, emphasized the initiative's success in raising food safety awareness and enhancing hygiene practices among bakers.
Future plans for the program include expanding to cover 5,000 bakers nationwide and targeting upcoming locations in Cape Coast, Takoradi, Agona Swedru, and Winneba.
