The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers Association has issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding the suspension of a newly imposed 5% excise tax on locally produced plastic products.

The Association's President, Ebbo Botwe, warned that if the tax is not revoked within a week, manufacturers will halt production for seven days, potentially leading to a reduction in essential plastic-packaged commodities, including bottled and sachet water.

This could result in significant economic fallout and hardship for consumers.

Ghana Union of Traders' Association President, Dr. Joseph Obeng, also urged the government to find alternative tax solutions, criticizing the timing and burden on struggling businesses.
