Ghana faces a daily electricity shortfall of around 700 megawatts, occasionally reaching 1,000 MW, due to structural issues in power generation. This deficit affects domestic demand fulfillment and energy export revenues.

The Institute for Energy Security emphasizes the need for enhanced utilization of existing capacity, expansion of generation facilities, and flexible operational policies to improve reliability.

Recommendations include investing in new generation facilities, optimizing peak demand through demand response programs, and establishing bilateral agreements with neighboring countries to ensure reliability while balancing domestic needs.
