Power outages due to gas shortage stemming from commercial issues – GRIDCO

GRIDCo has attributed recent power outages in Ghana to a gas shortage affecting electricity generation, caused by "commercial issues" involving agreements and payments with gas suppliers.

GRIDCo’s Dzifa Bampoh clarified that these supply issues have reduced power generation capacity, limiting the electricity GRIDCo can transmit to ECG.

She noted that the outages are not linked to Sunon Asogli Power Limited’s recent shutdown due to ECG’s debt.

The situation is expected to stabilize once the government addresses the commercial challenges with gas suppliers, restoring consistent power supply.
