On November 8, 2024, Ghana marked a milestone in sustainable architecture with the inauguration of a Nearly Zero-Energy Building (nZEB), a collaboration between GIZ Ghana and the Energy Commission of Ghana.

Constructed by Berock Construction Limited and designed by S. Tetteh + Associates, the building demonstrates energy-efficient government office design, showcasing passive and active strategies to reduce environmental impact.

Key features include sun shading with native Denya hardwood, double-glazed low-emissivity windows, and locally sourced materials. An on-site 50 kW solar photovoltaic system generates 88% of the building’s energy needs, while eco-friendly cooling and an energy management system enhance efficiency.

Celebrating Ghanaian culture, the interior incorporates woven pendant lights, white terrazzo floors, and rammed earth walls. The facility includes conference rooms, office spaces, and training venues, setting a new benchmark for sustainable infrastructure in Africa.
