SOEs pay over GH₵194m dividend to government in 2023

State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in Ghana paid over GH₵194 million in dividends to the government last year, mostly from companies where the government holds a minority share.

According to the 2023 State Ownership Report by the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), SOEs with minority government ownership contributed GH₵139.7 million (71.89%), while fully government-owned SOEs paid GH₵6.2 million (3.19%).

Joint Venture Companies contributed GH₵48.2 million (24.83%).

Despite some sectors, like banking, facing losses due to the domestic debt exchange program, overall SOE profits before tax improved significantly, boosting Ghana’s domestic growth by 27%.
