Key players in Ghana’s logistics and trade sectors, led by the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders and other associations, will protest on September 24, 2024, against shipping lines over arbitrary charges, such as container cleaning fees and weekend demurrage fees.
They argue these fees violate Bank of Ghana regulations and contribute to forex leakages, weakening the cedi and increasing business costs.
The protestors demand an end to weekend demurrage charges, elimination of arbitrary fees, and adherence to local pricing laws. They emphasize that these practices inflate the cost of goods, worsening Ghana’s high cost of living.
