Sunon Asogli shutdown may force Ghana to import more power – IES

The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has warned that Ghana may need to import additional power following the shutdown of Sunon Asogli Power's 560 MW plant due to ECG's unpaid debt.

IES Executive Director, Nana Amoasi VII, noted that Ghana has already been importing power from Cote d'Ivoire for the past four weeks.

He emphasized that while the current wet weather has minimized the impact, the situation may worsen as conditions dry.

Nana Amoasi called for sustainable solutions, increased investment, and less political interference to address ECG's ongoing challenges.
