We can’t afford tomatoes – Traders lament

Tomato traders in markets like Mallam Atta Market in Accra, Techiman, and the Northern Region are grappling with soaring tomato prices, nearly pushing them out of business.

Prices have skyrocketed, with four pieces of tomatoes selling for GH¢20.

The cost of a box of tomatoes has surged from GH¢4,200 to GH¢7,500 to GH¢7,800.

Despite being locally grown, prices remain high, leading to a decline in customers.

Traders speculate the price hike could be due to increased transportation costs or exchange rate fluctuations. The traders are urging government intervention to alleviate their financial strain.
