The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has started construction works to remount the pylon transmission tower that was hacked down two weeks ago by some unknown assailants.
During a tour at the facility, the Chief Technician Engineer for GRIDCO, Bernard Tekpor said construction of the transmission tower will be finished soon as progress has been made.
According to him,

On March 25, one of the pylons near the Head office of GRIDCo that transmits power from Karpower and ASKA to the national grid was hacked down.
When GRIDCo officials visited the site, they found that the hacksaw blade apparently used by the perpetrators had been left on one of the concrete platforms with some of the bolts hanging loosely at the base of the tower.
The collapse of the tower which carries 16,000 kilovolts affected the integrity of another transmission line which caused power outages ‘dumsor’ in some parts of the country.
But Mr Tekpor in his explanation said the recent power outages cannot be linked to the collapsed tower because there are other transmission towers with conductors that carry loads on it although they got affected on the day of the incident.
However, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the incident involving the pylon belonging to GRIDCo in Tema.
