The chief of Banka, a farming community in the Asante Akyem South Municipality, has been sentenced to three months in jail by an Accra High Court for misappropriating $150,000 intended for community development.

The 65-year-old chief, Nana Twiampomah III (Frederick Kofi Frimpong), seized the funds donated by Gold Coast Company in 2010, depriving the community of essential amenities.

Judge Comfort K. Tasiame delivered a lenient sentence due to the chief’s age.

In addition to jail time, the chief was fined 2,000 penalty units or faces an additional five years in prison if unpaid.

Community members expressed satisfaction with the judgment.
