The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in Dambai, Oti Region, has intercepted three trucks smuggling dried cocoa beans into Togo.

The cocoa, hidden under crates of minerals from the Ashanti Region, led to the arrest of the drivers and their mates, who are now facing charges.

Smuggling activities have been increasing in the northern corridors of the Oti Region, particularly in the Guan District and Nkwanta municipalities, with smugglers using various concealment methods to evade police checks.

Cocoa Board officials have expressed concern over this illegal trade, driven by the higher prices offered by unregulated Togolese buyers. They urge the public to report any smuggling activities to protect Ghana’s cocoa industry.
