Five lotto fraudsters arrested in Kumasi

The Ashanti regional police command has cautioned Media Houses across the country to stop creating platforms for lotto fraudsters to advertise fake numbers to the unsuspecting public.

The Ashanti regional police command gave the warning at a News conference in Kumasi following the arrest of five suspected lotto fraudsters who advertise their numbers on radio and television to dupe people who patronise their service for quick money.

People who reach out to them for the numbers are therefore directed to send money through mobile money for the lotto numbers which ends up to be a scam.

The suspects later destroy their sim cards as soon as the victims send them the money after to avoid trace.

Addressing the media in Kumasi upon the arrest by the Tafo-Pankrono divisional command, ASP Godwin Ahianyor, Ashanti regional police Public Relations officer urged media houses across the country to cease creating room for lotto fraudsters to operate on their airwaves.

In a related development, the police in South Suntreso have also arrested one Kwame Owusu Asumani, 23, who has been stealing musical instrument from churches in the Kwadaso and its environs.

The suspect who admitted to stealing from several churches in the area in court and has been sentenced to 3 years in prison with hard labour.
