Man arrested for attempting to sell niece to acquire Canadian visa

A 30-year-old man, Nana Kofi Amofa, also known as Kofi Yesu, has been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit for attempting to sell his 6-year-old niece for GHC150,000 to fund a Canadian visa.

Amofa was apprehended on July 23, 2024, at Gomoa Buduburam after officers posed as potential buyers.

He admitted the child, his brother's daughter, was invited under the guise of better educational opportunities but intended for financial exploitation.

Both Amofa and the child are now with the Kasoa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for further investigation.
