A 23-year-old mobile banker has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie circuit court for stealing.

Mary Oti Owusu is accused of stealing over GHc 15,000.00 given to her by customers to be deposited at the Abuakwa branch of Sefwiman Rural bank, where she works.

She pleaded guilty and her sentence was deferred to April 22, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Ruth Gborson told the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey that, the complainant was the Atwima-Abuakwa branch Manager of Sefwiman Rural bank, while the accused was a mobile banker for the bank.

She said on December 24, last year, some customers including Susu contributors of the accused went to the bank to collect their money but the balances in their passbooks differ from what was in the bank’s system.

The prosecution said the accused was invited for an explanation but she could not give any tangible reasons.

The prosecution said a report was then made to the police and during interrogation, she admitted the offence and was therefore charged and brought before the court.
