Togolese police track Ghanaian to Volta Region with stolen Jeep Rubicon; exchange gun fire

Togolese police, in collaboration with Ghanaian security forces, have arrested a 40-year-old Ghanaian, identified as F. Daniel, for car theft and smuggling.

Daniel, who resisted arrest and fired a .10 caliber pistol, was subdued during the joint operation and is now in custody with Togo's Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) in Lomé.

Authorities believe his capture will disrupt a transnational car theft network operating between Ghana and Togo.

Surveillance linked Daniel’s group to multiple vehicle thefts, including a Toyota Fortuner stolen in December 2023 and a Jeep Rubicon taken in August 2024.

Daniel, posing as a weaver in Lomé, admitted his role in the network, which smuggled stolen vehicles into Ghana, including one recovered in Agbozoumè.
