Akufo-Addo prioritising election win over galamsey fight – Vanderpuye

Nii Lante Vanderpuye, MP for Odododiodoo, has accused President Akufo-Addo of avoiding decisive action against illegal mining (galamsey) due to concerns about losing votes.

Amid growing demands for a state of emergency and a ban on small-scale mining, Vanderpuye claimed that the government's inaction stems from political fears.

He noted that after cracking down on galamsey in 2020, the government allegedly lost electoral support, making officials hesitant to tackle the issue again.

Vanderpuye criticized the lack of leadership in addressing the environmental and social harm caused by illegal mining.
