Ghana’s queen at the pageant, Akpene Diata Hoggar has so far distinguished herself as a worthy ambassador of Ghana, having shown class at every stage of the competition, especially during the National Costume Contest where her modern-day Yaa Asantewaa outfit turned heads and dazzled audiences in Thailand and around the world.
Her costume designed by @dharrren and styled by @officialkelvincent & @yartelgh received some rave reviews from notable local and international media outlets, including the Daily Mail of the United Kingdom (UK), which listed the Ghanaian queen’s costume among five others displayed on its website, describing her outlook as “Fierce”!
This was in reference to the message portrayed by the concept of the dress, which was inspired by the warrior queen, Yaa Asantewaa and also represented Ghana’s strength and power.
Ms Diata Hoggar held the audience spell-bound with her leather bodice and skirt adorned with straw to highlight Ghana’s connection to the earth and sun.
On top of her head, she wore a sunlight headpiece of gold and that was enough to draw loads of positive attention to herself. She also came up strongly among the favourites during the preliminary contest when she hit the stage with a beautiful evening gown cut and stitched by @ophelia_crossland.
“The evening gown segment was life to me. I was proud to “sashay” in this dazzling gown and to bear the flag of Ghana,” Miss Hoggar said after the mini contest.
She also had a good a time during the swimsuit photoshoot, pointing out that, “Having a healthy mind is just as important as having a healthy body. To achieve your body goals, fall in love with the process of carving your body into the figure of a goddess and the results will come”.
Commenting on the contestants from the other countries, Miss Hoggar said, “I have met and learnt so much from these lovely ladies. I’m looking forward to a great final contest”.
With all these said and done, Miss Hoggar says she is poised to make Ghana proud in the grand finale.
She asked Ghanaians to keep praying for her and liking her posts on her social media pages as well as on missuniverse.com to increase her chances of winning the crown.
