Ballet star dies after falling from building

Russian ballet star Vladimir Shklyarov died on Saturday after falling from the fifth floor of a building.

The Mariinsky Theater, where he was a principal dancer, called his death a "huge loss."

Authorities are investigating, but initial reports suggest the fall was accidental.

Shklyarov, 38, was set for spinal surgery and had been using strong painkillers.

Born in St. Petersburg, Shklyarov trained at the Vaganova Academy and performed globally in productions like Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet.

He was a vocal advocate for peace, opposing Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

A decorated artist, he was married to fellow dancer Maria Shirinkina and had two children.
