A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has criticised the orgnaisers of the CAF Awards for sidelining Ghanaian artistes at the event which was hosted in Accra.
Nigerian artistes including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Patoranking, Flavour and a host other foreign artistes dominated the 2017 CAF Awards night at the Accra International Conference Centre held on Thursday, 4 January.
The failure of the organisers to put Ghanaian artistes on the bill has attracted some flak from some Ghanaians.
Mr Octhere-Darko, who was at the event, wrote on his Facebook shortly after the event that: “Almost a perfect programme at the CAF Awards soiled by lack of local content. But why, they couldn’t find any Ghanaian musician? Pathetic!”
“Instead of treating us to some good Ghanaian performances, as well, CAF decided to populate the stage with Naija ones plus others, including a Nigerian artiste who was dressed as if he lost his way to the gym. I hear he is called Wizkid.”
Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah was crowned the African Player of the Year 2017. The Liverpool forward beat competition from fellow Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane of Senegal and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The 25-year-old has so far hit the back of the net 23 times from 29 appearances for Liverpool. He also helped the Pharaohs of Egypt to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia.
