Celebrated highlife musician George Darko is all clear to pick up the Best Highlife Video award at Saturday’s Music Video Awards.
The ‘Ako Te Brofo’ singer is facing competition from Kwabena Kwabena, Kwame Zaggy, Jay Ghartey, King David, Bless and Adane Best. But his management team Mirror Image Promotions has said they are optimistic about a win on a night that would be celebrating a 17 other musicians.
George’s “Lucky Star” video, directed by Ezekiel Tetteh (STIP) of Solid Multimedia, looks the obvious favourite to pick the award in this category.
Arguably one of Ghana’s most talked about highlife acts, George celebrated his 60th birthday this year, and used the occasion to launch his album “Lucky Star”. He has been busy all year round performing in and out of Ghana, to some great responses.
The album has enjoyed considerable success both home and abroad, receiving reviews and heavy rotation on various radio and television platforms.
“With time, George has proved his worth and kept the highlife genre going. I think it is fair to say that George is one of the reasons why highlife received so much attention this year. If there is that one person who ensured that the genre was back on its feet this year, then it is George.
The Music Video award will go to endorse the hard work he put in this year,” says Boakye Nhyira, Manager for George Darko.
