Ghana’s educational system doesn’t enhance talent - Kwaku Manu

Kumasi-based actor, Kwaku Manu has disclosed to Amansan Krakye on GBC Central Radio that the nature of Ghana’s educational system doesn’t support talent but rather prepares individuals for the job market.

He said although he’s not saying education is bogus, he wants much emphasis to be placed on talent development which is the only medium through which we can solve problems in the country.

“I will advise everyone that education is very important but it’s not everyone that will be successful out of schooling. Even when it comes to learning a trade, two people can go into learning dressmaking but one might learn and complete the training ahead of the colleague.

“Education is not only about classroom learning, but in Ghana parents don’t even want their children to pursue something they have interest in. Some parents push their wards into certain professions which is not what the child prefers and that shouldn’t be the focus of education.

“The best thing is being able to know your left from right and it is very important to know how to read and write. But pray to God that your gift or God given talent that you brought into this world, God should open your eyes so that you can see it. I really like my acting job because when our work is going on I don’t wish to do any other job apart from acting. So once it is my field I need to get more insight into what it entails.

“However, most people are just going to school without any ambition. Learning too many subjects in a day isn’t helpful at all. I will entreat parents to consider the talents of their children and help them achieve it instead of just following the crowd.

“Observe your children critically and you’d know what he likes. Education in Ghana is like going for a driving license. You are made to learn a lot of road signs but you hardly find or see some of these signs on our roads”.
