In that say year [1975], an office for MUSIGA was established at the Community Center near the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum Memorial Park and Baiden Powell Hall in Accra.
Knowing how valuable music is to development, the PNDC government, under the personal directives of the Chairman, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings gave enormous support to the resuscitation and reorganization of MUSIGA.
On March 2025, MUSIGA will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The 50th-anniversary celebration was launched at the Accra Tourism Information Centre on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
Speaking about the upcoming 50th-anniversary celebration on Channel One TV‘s ‘The Chat’, Abena Ruthy while outlining some of the successes the union has chalked noted that several current musicians, such as Kuami Eugene and Adina emerged from a music incubation project the union organized.
“So some of the wonderful people you see came out from some training MUSIGA organised…I can talk of Adina and Kuami Eugene…I mean those from the Lynx Entertainment line… You see them and you are like this is a private person doing something but it was an initiative from MUSIGA that helped them to come out through our Music incubation project”. She stressed that another aspect the union takes pride in is that, “We seek help to help our members..for instance, during Obour’s tenure as the President he did this Midland savings thing that helped people to get funding to push their crafts … We So also had an agreement with NAFTI where people were trained.
With legendary Highlife musician Bessa Simons as the President, Abena Ruthy encouraged all musicians to join the union to benefit from it.
