Idris Elba, the British actor and producer, has encouraged African filmmakers to expand their distribution channels and explore options beyond popular streaming platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.
The actor, known for his role in Beast of No Nation, recognized the global reach of these platforms in showcasing African content but emphasized the importance of developing local capacity and infrastructure for true success.
During the Africa Cinema Summit (ACS) in Accra on Monday, October 7, Idris Elba, a staunch advocate for the growth of Africa's film industry, expressed his vision for a self-sustaining sector with an independent distribution network, separate from Western platforms.
According to him, the potential of African cinema is limitless, and discussions about distribution and industry growth are crucial. He also highlighted the growing filmmaking scene in Ghana, emphasizing the wealth of tourism and the abundance of creative talents and compelling stories emerging from the country.
