Professor John Collins refutes claims highlife originated from Liberia

Professor John Collins has refuted claims that Liberians, specifically Kru Sailors, are the true originators of highlife music.

He maintains that highlife, created in Ghana in the 1920s, evolved from local styles rather than being introduced by the Kru.

Ghana is also seeking UNESCO recognition for highlife as an intangible cultural heritage.
