Tamale comes ‘alive’ after historic Independence Day event

Exactly a week ago, the Northern region made history by becoming the first region aside Greater Accra to host Ghana’s Independence Day parade, 62-years after the nation gained its freedom colonial rule.

But the day didn’t end with just the parade as many visitors who came from far and near joined indigenes at various pubs in the evening to celebrate the making of history.

GhanaWeb took a stroll through the town which was unusually alive on a Wednesday evening.

Owners of various pubs the team visited expressed joy about how much sales they had made and how much patronage their businesses were receiving owing to the big event.

Natives who spoke to the news team expressed their appreciation to the president for his decision to let their region host the Independence Day for the first time.

The town was filled with a level of merrymaking which can be compared with the day Dr Kwame Nkrumah made the famous declaration ‘…Ghana your beloved country is free forever’.
