For some unbeknown reason/s, the NPP have touted Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, their former vice presidential candidate, to such wuthering heights that is unheard of in the country’s history. To them, Bawumia holds the magic wand with his masterly and wizardry of numbers, which will eventually send President John Mahama parking from the Flagstaff House and pave the way for the 2012 defeated presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be crowned the president elect.
The NPP leadership and supporters believe in this false assumption so much that they have deliberately and repeatedly missed the countless number of times that Bawumia had to borrow a calculator to do simple additions and subtractions at the Supreme Court (SC) in the on-going challenge of the 2012 Presidential Election which they badly lost but are shamefully contesting.
I want to take you down to memory lane. When the NPP lost the 2012 presidential election and did not know how to handle the defeat and also explain to their supporters what actually cost them the election, they decided to run to court to save their party from disintegration.
But Dr Bawumia, considered the ‘Brain’ of the NPP, who led a team or should I say a committee to gather the trough of evidence of electoral fraud, decided to show his so-called mastery of numbers and overblown wizardly in analysis when he told Ghanaians during a press conference on the day that they filed the SC petition that, there were several ways that the Electoral Commission cheated Akufo-Addo out of victory.
Among his so-called litany of allegations, Bawumia stated emphatically that at a polling station at Manhyia and other places, Nana Akufo-Addo won the elections only for the numbers to be changed to defeat at the collation centres.
Bawumia did not stop there. He further alleged by citing some polling stations where President Mahama lost but ‘miraculously’ saw his electoral numbers trumped up at the collation centres. These were serious allegations.
Therefore, when the NPP filed their affidavits at the SC, those allegations of massaging of electoral numbers at the collation centres featured very prominently because Bawumia and Co. falsely believe that those acts may have contributed towards their loss in the 2012 Election.
But we are soon to hear that those so-called allegations of massaging of numbers at the collation centres in favour of President Mahama, no longer have legs. Bawumia took many people by surprise when he told the SC that they have dropped some of their so-called allegations because they do not have the evidence to back them. All what Bawumia and his lawyers wanted to tell the court was that those allegations were false but they do not have the courage to tell the court, which is why they danced around the reasons for their sudden U-turn.
The revelation came when Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, counsel for the third respondents sought to question Bawumia on those allegations on Thursday May 2, 2013. But as we have all seen during the intense cross-examination of Bawumia, he suddenly dropped the ball that they are running away from those allegations concerning the massaging of results at the collation centres because they have no evidence at all to back those claims.
The latest dart by Bawumia from his own shaky numbers and questionable analysis is another indication of the so-called trough of evidence in tartars. Bawumia, who may have done a very lousy job and run to court with the view that the NDC will not have the time and means to go through the purported evidence to ensure due diligence is gradually drawing circles around himself in court.
The so-called mastery of numbers by Bawumia has been blown into smithereens by Tsatsu Tsikata. And Bawumia is now seen on television screens clinging to his arrogance and repeatedly saying that an illegality has been committed in the 2012 Election but has no proof to back those claims.
The burden of proof is gradually becoming too heavy a task for Bawumia which is why he keeps running from his own so-called water tight evidence. I want to repeat that by the time this case is over, Bawumia will be a miserable wretch. Bawumia owns the NPP pot with the trough of so-called evidence, therefore, when it breaks it becomes his property. The NPP will never forgive Bawumia if at the end of the day it is proven that he sent them to court under false premise. That day is coming, and coming very fast.
