Columnist: Okoampa-Ahoofe, Kwame
If you are a regular reader of my columns, you damn well know that I have absolutely no respect for the political track-record of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), regardless of who occupies the helm at the Flagstaff House and, long before the latter edifice, the old European slave castle at Osu.
The main reason for my immutable disaffection inheres in the fact of the key NDC operatives having made an enviable art of gross incompetence, even while smugly and shamelessly pretending to have been the best thing that happened to Ghanaian political culture since then-Prime Minister Kwame Nkrumah’s declaration of Ghana’s independence.
Actually, I understand, from the erudite Prof. Mike Oquaye, that it was one of Britain’s Duchesses who declared Ghana to be politically self-governing on behalf of Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The problem of gross administrative incompetence is pretty much the cache which clearly differentiates the ruling National Democratic Congress from the country’s main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
When it comes to the management of the country’s education, irrespective of academic or curricular level, the NDC is decidedly AWOL. After all, wasn’t it the same NDC that decided on the reckless implementation of the 3-year Senior High School (SHS) system that is not practiced anywhere in the civilized and democratically functional world?
And you would have thought that such a nation-wrecking decision had anything to do with the country’s academic and cultural development. Well, the reason, as lamely articulated by Ms. Akua Sena Dansua, could not have been more reprehensible.
It was to ensure that our young women got out of school on time in order to grab at the crotches of the ideal husbands of their dreams. I would be horrified, to tell you the truth, if I were to learn tomorrow, or even right now, that Ms. Dansua is presently a married woman.
My beef here is that such clinically abject cognitive obtuseness had not prevented the former Sports, Tourism and Children and Women’s Affairs Minister from being appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany.
It may actually have been reckoned as a prime asset, knowing what I have come to know about the dubious operations of the NDC apparatchiks. In the case of the eldest daughter of my Akyem-Kwabeng-born uncle, Teacher Amoako-Nuamah, the problem may actually be that Dr. Christiana Amoako-Nuamah joined the wrong crowd at the most inopportune moment, and then the grandniece of my maternal grandfather, the Rev.
Theodore Henry (Yawbe) Sintim(-Aboagye) got destroyed as a result of trucking with the hoodlum pack of spoilt-rotten apples that is the executive fiber of the National Democratic Congress.
Well, until I came across the news article captioned “GIMPA Passes Vote of No Confidence in Amoako-Nuamah-led Council,” I hadn’t been aware that this brilliant unknown cousin of mine by the name of Dr. Christiana Amoako-Nuamah was still breaking bread with the NDC Abongo Boys.
Her own mother is widely known to have been loathed to the very skin-crawling idea of her daughter’s sharing a political cabin with swashbuckling thugs like Chairman Jerry John Rawlings, and now President John “Ford Expedition” Dramani Mahama.
Well, if it is true that she has been allowing her personal opinions and quirks to cloud and unduly influence her decisions as to who ought to be appointed Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), as well as who ought to serve as Registrar of that remarkable institution, then I am deeply sorry but this woman simply has to be afforded the heave-ho. Pronto!
You can call me a sexist on this one, too, and, believe me, I would proudly spot it as a blazing badge of honor.
