Equal Rights For Ghanaian Dual Citizens

The dye is now cast , “adanko deka”. The Dual Citizenship and enforcement of ROPAA suit has been filed on behalf of Ghana Dual Citizenship Advocacy Group (GDCAG) by our Solicitor Nana Obiri Boahen of Sunyani in the Kumasi High Court on Tuesday, May 8 2007.

The Freedom train powered by the engine of GCCAG is now rolling and all those who want to be part of the process of change in our mother land Ghana should get on board. For those who have developed cold feet and want to straddle the fence, let them sit there to thaw their feet. Whilst those who don’t see the utility of fighting for equal rights for Diaporans due to their concern about not making some people at home mad, let them cool their heels.

In my opinion, history will mark our fight for equal right in addition to the gains we made under ROPAA to be the preeminent Constitutional right struggle by Diasporans during the current democratic dispensation.

Our struggle reminds me of the problems the great Dr. Martin Luther King encountered when he launched his civil right movement in Montgomery Alabama in the early 1950’s. His strongest critics were his own black academics and the elites who benefited from the status quo. His seminal work “Why We Can’t Wait “should provide us with the inspiration and moral courage to proceed with our fight for equal rights and justice as citizens of Ghana.

Country men, let us invest in our freedom. Let’s invest in our security and that of our children’s by buying into the freedom fund. Freedom is not cheap! This is our fight. Let no one be deceived that someone can fight for you or win your battle without a struggle!
