Columnist: The Informer

Fulani Herdsmen Must Be Checked

Commentary

Although, The Informer agrees perfectly with majority view of Ghanaians, that, Ghana continues to foster good ties with her neighboring countries, be in the area of economic, security and or whatever goodies the synergy brings, we are of the view that the said treaties must be revisited, and if possible, revised to the benefit of the larger majority, who in recent times has become victim of activities of Fulani herdsmen in the country.

We respect the country’s position since joining the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other organizations that have been formed to protect the Africa continent and its citizens, but the fact of the matter is that the barbaric activities of the nomadic people can no longer be tolerated.
It is undeniable that, “Mama Africa” must unite for a common purpose, but it is equally important to add that, whichever body is instituted to bring that much needed unity, must not turn the blind eyes to activities going on, on the continent, as in Ghana today, following the influx of these Fulani herdsmen into the country.
Without fear of negation, The Informer; very much concern about the development of this nation and her citizenry, is calling on government, and to extent, the various agencies entrusted with the security of the Ghanaian people to effectively intervene, to curb the wanton destruction to agro-property by the marauding Fulani Herdsmen and there animal-friends.
In fact, we have keenly monitored the obnoxious activities of these Fulani herdsmen, who have become so comfortable in this country, and therefore, misbehaving the way and manner they like; and that is why we are urgently calling on government to help plume their activities.
The nasty incidents at Ashanti Akyem Agogo and the Volta Region are as fresh as yesterday in everybody’s mind, although there are so many instances to refer to; and that is why we are of the opinion that something urgently needed be done to whip these people into line.
No single day passes by, that Ghanaians do not wake up to read in the papers or hear on radio about the nasty activities of the group as mentioned, and its surprising our authorities rather turned to protect these sets of uncultured group of people in the name of Africa unity; who have been terrorizing citizens of this country.
To be honest, our hearts bleed whenever we hear that these Fulani herdsmen are going about raping innocent women they encounter as they walk the bushes of this country; and alone to us, is enough reason for them to be expelled from this country, whether African Union or not.
If they are not arrested for having engaged in armed robbery, then it is equally about a very criminal act, yet we still accommodate them, because, we belong to all the organizations on the continent and as required, must respect the rights of citizens of member countries.
It is surprising to note that, Ghana is still accommodating these people when it is on record that many communities in the sub-region have suffered some brutalities in one way or the other, in the hands of these unkempt set of people to the detriment of the ordinary Ghanaians, particularly, our women, whom they have turned into their sex mates and are raping them left, right, back and forth.
In fact, the continuing show of anger against these Fulani herdsmen by the chiefs and people of Agogo in Asante-Akyem, and the people of Volta region who became their latest victims, is just a tip of the iceberg since there are many to follow, if government fails to act, and act quickly.
Although, they have been operating on our soils for decades, and some even became citizens by birth, the fact of the matter is that their activities must be checked or else they are made to face the wrath of Ghanaians, since the authorities have decided not to help, period!!!
