Unless the God that we all worship is discriminatory, I don’t see why He will like one person more than the other, or prefer one political party over the other. God loves every human being that He had created in His own image. Even the bible emphasises that God always seeks to save the lost; therefore, God sets his eyes more on sinners than the saved. Anybody or group, that thinks that God prefers them over the others may therefore, be in a big dreamland.
The situation even becomes worse when a certain group or party in its anxiety to court the Christian Community in this year’s election misquotes the bible and try to deceive voters. This behaviour is unacceptable and it is sacrilegious in the sight of God. Those who are involved in such acts are playing with fire and God’s wrath is at an arm’s length.
I have expressed my distaste about the way the NPP people have boldly written on all their campaign vehicles that this year’s election is a battle that belongs to the Lord and even quoted the exact bible verse of I Samuel 17:47 to buttress their point. Giant billboards have been erected by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to amplify it.
When you read the story that led to that quote by David, you will see that the NPP people quoted the bible verse out of context. It simply has no bearing on the elections because the verse was related to a real war that happened between David (Israelite) and Goliath (Philistine), unless the NPP is looking to plunge the country into war.
But one of the NPP guys who happen to go by the name Gabby Otchere Darko, who also happens to be Akufo-Addo’s brains, said something in an interview with the Joy FM that needs correction.
During the interview, Otchere Darko, stated that the NPP is counting on the Almighty God to win the election, but they would not allow themselves to be blinded by the treachery, lies, deceit and propaganda being peddled by their opponents. That is fair game because in politics you are allowed to say things to either outwit your opponent or whip up your base.
But what Otchere Darko added seriously call for concern and also portray that the NPP people who claim that they are better Christians do not understand what they quote from the bible. Simply put, they are just quoting from different sources in the bible to make them look more Christ-Centric than their political opponents.
Otchere Darko is quoted as saying that, “The battle is the Lord’s but we need people to break the Jericho walls of propaganda and lies”. For the purposes of educating my NPP friends who have lately been behaving that God is more an NPP than any other party, it was God who broke the walls of Jericho. The people of Israel led by Joshua did nothing apart from marching around the walls of Jericho and blowing horns.
Again, unlike the Israelites who were at war at the time and thus had to rely on God to destroy the walls of Jericho before the Israelites could enter, we in Ghana are not at war, therefore, the two comparisons about the battle between David and Goliath and the Walls of Jericho does not make sense. It simply does not add up and it’s like comparing apples and oranges.
I am being forced to shout on top of my voice that, Ghana is not at war. And normal election is not about war. We are just 7 days away from elections. Therefore, this needless tension that is being created by the NPP people to generate fear and panic will not lead them anywhere. We don’t have to beat the war drums nor think that God is clothed in NPP colours. He is the God of all, and will surely lead Ghanaians to elect the next King.
No walls of Jericho will be broken for the cherished people of Ghana to be slaughtered. No Goliath will be killed for the Philistines to be butchered and chased out. God’s peace that transcends all understanding will reign before and after December 7. Therefore, those who are beating the war drums better be careful, because GOD IS WATCHING.
