God On Mahama’s And NDC’s Side

By Margaret Jackson

Poll results trickling in gradually is giving a peek to Ghanaians as to who will eventually emerge as the winner of the 2012 Presidential election. Even though some members of the NPP started jubilating prematurely when initial results went to their favour, later events have proven that it pays to be patient.

With results from other constituencies pouring in, it is increasingly becoming clear that President John Mahama will win hands down and that there would not be the need for a run-off.

But the NPP people want to put the cart before the horse. Instead of waiting for the Electoral Commission to declare them winners, they have unlawfully and unconstitutionally declared themselves winners, with a call by their General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie to all their members to wear white and pour into the streets today to jubilate.

The NPP is doing this when results of all the 275 constituencies have not yet been declared by the EC. One wonders why a party which fiercely claims to believe in the rule of law will do something silly.

The mood in Accra and notably Kumasi speaks it all. The much noted vociferous NPP supporters seem to be crestfallen as President Mahama is separating the gap between him and that of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Even though the NDC supporters have not yet popped the champagne, many people strongly feel that the elections have gone the way of the NDC. I have been vilified by NPP supporters anytime I write articles to speak my mind on wide ranging issues, but I believe that when the pieces settle and President Mahama is declared the winner the NPP supporters will turn round to salute me.

In politics when you make the same mistakes that cost you an election, it clearly shows that you are not up to the task. And that is what the NPP people have to grapple with after they are chased back into the bush to regroup.

Indeed God has been so faithful and good to Ghanaians by letting the NDC smile. In the midst of the fiercest political campaign ever in the country, Mahama indeed had proven that he has what it takes to lead Ghanaians to the next level.

Ghanaians have also proven that apart from being peaceful they do not want to be taken for granted again, hence the rejection of the NPP and their political gimmicks. I personally thank God for seeing Ghanaians through and helping the country to retain Mahama and the NDC.
