The annual season for final year students in our first and second cycle institutions is here. Final year students at these levels are expected to sit for this year’s WAEC exam. It is on this background that Youth Alliance for Development wishes all final year students sitting for this year`s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and West African Senior Secondary certificate Exams (WASSCE) the best of success throughout the season.
We humbly urge all candidates to comply with all the laid down rules and regulations guiding the writing of the exams to avoid cancellation of papers and other unforeseen circumstances.
Youth Alliance would want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of parents and teachers to motivate and psyche their children throughout this period.
While commending government for the interventions which were instituted to improve the performance of the BECE this year we wish to draw the attention of government to the numerous challenges which were encountered with the school computer placement program and the stress parents had to go through getting admission for their wards.
We expect the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to start putting the necessary mechanism in place to deal with the difficulties we had with the computer placement last academic year.
Finally, government must design a stop gap program for BECE candidates who fail to meet the placement so that they can enter into skills development programmes.
It is in the view of Youth Alliance for Development that government takes a second look at the current grading system which does not permit students with grade D7 to be admitted into universities and other tertiary institutions. This situation prevented many people from entering universities last academic year.
Once again we say best wishes to all candidates.
