The lockdown of these regions is contextual and a significant step to arrest the spread of COVID-19.
However, it is essential to note that once mass transportation is readily available before the day of implementation of a selective lockdown (Saturday and Sunday), we should expect that many might be looking for alternative measures to avoid any inconvenience that will come with a temporary selective lockdown.
It is expected that people who can afford are likely to move from these attractive sections of the locked-down regions to the other regions of Ghana. It is not in the interest of many inhabitants of the other regions to receive a high inflow of people.
Therefore, it will be nice if the following steps are taken to derive maximum benefits from this initiative of a selective contextual lockdown and avoid any events that might fuel a nationwide lockdown!
Proposed steps to derive maximum benefits from this selective contextual lockdown are as follows:
1. Mass transportation of passengers out of the Greater Accra and Ashanti Region should be discouraged.
2. Checkpoints at entries to regions other than Greater Accra and Ashanti Region should be encouraged.
3. Only passengers who can show evidence of self-quarantine for 2 weeks or their host in other regions must show evidence of their capability to provide self-quarantine for 2 weeks should be allowed to leave the Greater Accra and Ashanti Region into other regions. Alternatively, other regions should make the necessary arrangements to quarantine all those who will enter their regions for 14 days before this selective contextual lockdown.
Remember that COVID-19 depends on our legs and vehicles to move from person to person. A decision not to move shall render COVID-19 hopeless!
Thank you.
Take care, stay safe and healthy.
