I am baffled to the last degree, why should NDC communications team be disgracing themselves like that?
I almost passed out when I heard the entire NDC communication team trying to make a political capital out of the just ended ECOWAS chairmanship position. To start with, the union was established on 28 May 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, with its stated mission to promote economic integration across the region.
A revised version of the treaty was agreed and signed on 24 July 1993 in Cotonou. Considered one of the pillar regional blocs of the continent-wide African Economic Community (AEC), the states goal of ECOWAS is to achieve "collective self-sufficiency" for its member states by creating a single large trading bloc by building a full economic and trading union.
ECOWAS also serves as a peacekeeping force in the region, with member states occasionally sending joint military forces to intervene in the bloc's member countries at times of political instability and unrest.
In recent years these included interventions in Ivory Coast in 2003, Liberia in 2003, Guinea-Bissau in 2012, Mali in 2013, and Gambia in 2017.
Secondly, ECOWAS chairmanship position is not been voting. It has always been by consensus and it has never been voted for. NDC should go and read page 7 to 8 of the ECOWAS THIRTY-EIGHTH ORDINARY SESSION OF THE AUTHORITY OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT held on 2nd July 2010 and up breast yourselves with current happenings.
The Rotational Chairmanship agreement was proposed on 2nd July 2010, and was adopted on 10th December 2010.
When it was adopted Umar Musah Yar'Adua (Negeria) was given the nod and was succeeded by GoodLuck Jonathan (Negiria) due to the untimely death of Yar'Adua. After Goodluck Jonathan term Alhassane Outtara (Ivory Coast) came in followed by John Mahama (Ghana) then Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia) and now Gnassingbè Nyadèma (Togo). If you care to follow the trajectory it has been Anglophone and Francophone since December 2010.
No wonder the Second in-command of the Ghana Armed Force (H.E Dr. Mahamud Bawumia) said the entire NDC fraternity hate reading. now I understand, they engage in frivolous propaganda and noise Making. No wonder every well meaning Ghanaian now knows that NDC is synonymous with propaganda and corruption.
The NDC communications team should follow this link, download the treaty of ECOWAS THIRTY-EIGHTH ORDINARY SESSION OF THE AUTHORITY OF HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT held on 2nd July 2010 and keep yourselves abreast with current happenings.
