NDC Must Apologise To Nana Akufo-Addo As Well. For What?

I don’t understand why Kennedy Agyapong wants the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to apologize to Nana Akufo-Addo just because he (Kennedy Agyapong) apologized to the President. Kennedy Agyapong described the President as ‘a jail-bound thief’ on a political platform recently organized by the NPP at Mantse Agbona. After persistent pressure, He (Kennedy) came out to apologize to the president, even that, it was with a condition that the NDC must also apologize to Nana Akufo- Addo. Why should the NDC also apologize to Nana Akufo-Addo? For what? The NDC never called Akufo-Addo ‘a jail-bound thief’? The NDC will not make such reckless statement. The NDC will first seek the truth before making an allegation. All allegations the NDC have used against Nana Akufo-Addo are from reliable and credible sources. This is why Akufo-Addo has not come out to deny or defend any of them.

I listened to the Deputy Information Minister, Sammuel Okudzeto-Ablakwa on Adom FM with Adakabre condemning politics of insult. That was very good and laudable. But he also made mention of the fact that, one’s character, attitude and record has to be looked at because we are dealing with people who are going to assume leadership positions like the president. But my problem with Mr. Okudzeto-Ablakwa was that, what if the person who wants to be the president has no good character, attitude or record and it has been proven beyond doubt? If these views are shared on a political platform, can it be called politics of insults? For me, this whole idea of politics of insult must be looked at critically. No one in NDC is insulting Nana Akufo-Addo. His actions, character, attitude, record is being questioned and not his person. Remember when the Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensa- Bonsu said, criticism of Betty Mould-Iddrisu was against her actions and not her person? Is the same case with Nana Akufo-Addo. No one is attacking his personality. Akufo-Addo refused a toxicology test for wee smoking (wikileaks report the use of drugs by Nana Addo). Sexual harassment on a female make-up artist at GBC (tape to prove). Not a single comment or outright denial by Nana Akufo-Addo in both cases. Must the NDC apologize for actions the society frowns on?

The NDC owes no apology to Nana Akufo-Addo. If there should be any apology to be rendered then it should rather be from the speakers of the so called gargantuan rally including Ex-President Kuffour and Nana Akufo-Addo himself to President Mills because all their speeches were distasteful to say the least. NDC only go by what they have seen and not hear say.

One thing I don’t like about most Ghanaians is that, they refuse to call a spade, a spade. They know the truth and yet, try to cover it. If your eyes are red, why should I say they are blue? If the NPP thinks that, calling Nana Akufo-Addo a wee smoker is politics of insult and tarnishing his image, then they should advice him to stop. He must also render an unqualified apology to the GBC make-up artist and her husband for the embarrassment caused the family publicly. The NPP should cry their own cry for choosing Nana Akufo-Addo as their flagbearer. They should not blame their woes on the NDC. The NDC is only calling a spade, a spade.
