Columnist: The Catalyst Newspaper
Strenuous efforts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to extricate itself from its entanglement in Mr. Kennedy Agyepong's recent hate speech against Gas and Voltarians, with its associated genocidal incitements, promises to be an exercise in futility, as existing facts point to the fact that this is not the first time a leading member of the party has engaged in this conduct. Kennedy Agyapong may be the one in the eye of the storm presently, but other leading members of the NPP have made similar hate speeches, categorically attacking the very existence of Ewes, only short of a war declaration like the Assin North MP.
The Catalyst on two different occasions brought to the attention of the world hate speeches made against Ewes by Mr. Kwabena Agyapong, a leading member of the NPP and former spokesperson for former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Kwame Okuampa-Ahoofe Jr. Ph.D., a governing board member of Danquah Institute (DI) and Akufo-Addo fanatic.
In reacting to an unchallenged publication in the Daily Post newspaper that NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is a 'wee' smoker, Kwame Okuampa-Ahoofe Jr. deemed it necessary to spew a hate speech against Ewes, his premise being that the editor of the newspaper, Mr. Michael Dokosi is an Ewe.
Kwame Okuampa-Ahoofe Jr. belligerently stated in an article captioned 'Michael “Trokosi” Dokosi Is a Togolese Ewe…'authored by him and published on www.ghanaweb.com in August 2011that Ewes are not bona fide human Ghanaian citizens like the rest of them, or at best, the few Ewes who have made the mark belong to the NPP.
Listen to him: “It goes without saying that there are Ewes of enviable repute and diligence, like the rest of us bona fide human Ghanaian citizens; and then there are all those other mutants like Mr. “Trokosi” Dokosi. Interestingly, though, almost all of these well-meaning Ghanaians belong to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
The opening paragraph of the primitive article written by the NPP tribal bigot read as follows: “At the risk of sounding parochially ethnocentric, and even crassly anti-Ewe, I still feel compelled to observe this glaringly and brazenly pathological “NDC-Ewe Obsession” with the character and personality of the Presidential Candidate of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Actually, it is not just an obsession with the character and personality of Ghana's former Justice Minister, but a seemingly incurable NDC-Ewe penchant for the abject distortion and assassination of the personhood and personality of the brilliant architect of the Repeal of the Criminal Libel Code, which has enabled the latest craze in this Ewe pathology, personified by the poor excuse of a man whose last- or surname sounds more like an exiled, disoriented Togolese political refugee in search of his bearings and presence of mind, than a bona fide Ghanaian-born Ewe native.”
Sadly, this is the mindset that a so-called Ph.D, who flaunts his credentials as an associate Professor of English, Journalism and Creative Writing at Nassau Community College of the State University of New York, has in this 21st century.
The Catalyst also broke the story about the hate speech that Mr. Kwabena Agyapong made against the people of the Volta region as captured by Jarreth Merz's documentary film 'An African Election' when he said loud and clear that there are no human beings in the Volta region.
The hate-spewing Kwabena Agyapong was exposed by the documentary, which detailed both public and behind-the-scenes happenings in the 2008 elections including the campaign trails of the NPP and NDC and the Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr. Kwabena Agyapong made the hate speech when he was accused by the NDC reps as having tampered with the election results in the strong room of the EC by fraudulently changing some results from Ashanti with new figures in collaboration with some party bigwigs.
In the heat of the moment, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong's shocking response to the NDC reps was that “we will challenge the figures from Volta. There are no human beings there.”
The similarity between the description of the people of the Volta region by Kwame Okuampa-Ahoofe Jr, Ph.D and Mr. Kwabena Agyapong cannot be ignored. Whilst the former said non-NPP Voltarians are not bona fide human Ghanaian citizens, the later said there are no human beings in Volta region.
Mr. Kennedy Agyapong's tantrums therefore would not have come as a surprise if he did not carry the NPP tribal agenda to the dangerous level of arrogating to himself such powers as to declare war on radio and call for the slaughtering of Voltarians and Gas in Ashanti on the flimsy allegation that Gas in Odododiodioo were preventingAkan NPP supporters from registering in the biometric registration exercise and also that gong-gong was beating somewhere in Volta that the under-age should go to register.
NPP's tribal bigotry dates back several decades and transcends all political regimes in Ghana but it was not expected that in this day and age, the situation could have degenerated to the current levels of lunacy the nation is experiencing.
